05 Mar Is He Cheating? Find Out!
Human relationships are fragile and complicated. If you’re in a position where you need to know how to find out if your boyfriend is cheating, you’ve probably had a rough couple of months. If you need to know how to find out if your husband is cheating, you probably feel even more anxious. If you want to know if you should be worried about your significant other cheating, take a quick inventory of the situation and figure out the best way to proceed.
What You Shouldn’t Do
A lot of people make mistakes when they suspect their significant other is cheating. They want definitive proof, so they’ll go through their boyfriend’s messages. They’ll invade his privacy by checking his social media accounts or inbox for clues. They might even follow him when he leaves the house. This is a terrible idea.
When you inevitably get caught snooping or stalking, a tense confrontation is likely to take place. Nobody is going to come out looking like a winner. If your boyfriend is cheating on you, the last thing you want to do is give him a reason to justify his behavior. Your suspicion and disregard for boundaries will only make things more difficult. At first, it seems ridiculous to think that. If he doesn’t respect the boundaries of your relationship, why should you respect the boundaries of his privacy?
The answer is simple – you’re a better person. It seems almost cavalier to resort to a “two wrongs don’t make a right” mentality about a situation that’s causing you stress, but it’s true. Going about things the right way will make for less friction later. He won’t be able to justify his behavior (if he’s done anything wrong) by deflecting the blame onto you. And you don’t deserve that blame if you’ve been faithful and committed. Being the bigger person will do a lot to help your case, especially if you have mutual friends with your (potentially cheating) boyfriend.
What You Should Do
Look for changes in behavior and patterns. For most people, a lack of intimacy usually gets them suspicious that their boyfriend might be cheating. This might not always be the case. If he’s dealing with a lot of stress at work, grieving a loss, or in physical pain, his libido might be naturally diminished.
Finding out that he’s been looking at -ahem- adult videos on his phone also doesn’t necessarily indicate that he’s cheating. Unless the videos are of him or seem to be personal videos of someone he knows, don’t be so quick to panic. He might just have an overactive libido that he doesn’t want to bother you with, or extenuating circumstances might prevent him from being as intimately active with you as he’d like to be.
Changes in behavior and patterns that should alarm you are somewhat acute. If he’s disappearing for hours on end without telling you where he is, or if he’s actively being spotted out with other people, these changes in behavior are red flags.
Take an inventory of all the things that have been bothering you lately, and try to rationally justify why you feel the way you do. Is it possible that there’s a reasonable explanation for why things seem different? Have you been in relationships where you’ve been cheated on? Do you have any residual fears or insecurities that come from negative experiences in the past? If you’re worried that your boyfriend is cheating with his ex, or even if you’re having dreams about your boyfriend cheating, think about why that might be taking up space in your mind.
It’s important to take this inventory. Recognizing your part in any situation, even if it’s merely that past situations have taught you hard lessons, will make the conversation easier.
Do You Even Want to Be In This Relationship?
You might be able to skip the conversation entirely if you look at the big picture. If you’re unhappy in your relationship and have issues trusting your partner, your partnership may not be worthwhile. If things seem to constantly be going awry and talking about them isn’t making them any better, it may be time to respectfully call things quits.
At the end of the day, you deserve to feel happy. A great relationship should be satisfying. You shouldn’t ever be made to feel insecure or suspicious of your significant other. If there are barriers preventing closeness and limiting the depth of your bond, it might not even matter if he’s cheating. Consider the fate of your relationship and your compatibility. If you want to know how closely you align, you can always get a compatibility chart.
